World #1 Serena Williams and world #2 Victoria Azarenka are on their way to Thailand to compete in the Hua Hin World Tennis Invitation event on 28 December 2013.
The pair are the undisputed best players in women’s tennis and both have enjoyed tremendous success this year resulting in them sitting at the top of the world rankings.
Between them, Serena and Victoria won three of the four Grand Slam titles this year, and Serena enjoyed one of the most dominant years by any player in the history of the game, winning an incredible 78 matches and losing only four throughout the year. Her triumphant year included 11 WTA singles titles, including the French Open, US Open and the WTA Championships.
This will be Serena’s first time playing in Hua Hin. She is one of the most successful women’s players of all time and her spectacular results this year show that she has no plans on stopping any time soon. She has a total of 57 WTA singles titles, including 17 Grand Slam singles plus an additional 15 Doubles and Mixed Doubles Grand Slam titles, and four Olympic gold medals. She is the only player in history to achieve the Golden Slam (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open and Olympic gold medal) in both singles and doubles.
Victoria will be looking to repeat her successful start of the last two years. She is competing in her third consecutive Hua Hin World Tennis Invitation, and on her two previous visits she then flew on to Australia where she won back-to-back Australian Open titles.
Victoria has won a total of 17 WTA singles titles including three in 2013. Before Serena reclaimed the top spot in 2013, Victoria held the #1 ranking for 51 weeks. She has won a total of four Grand Slam titles plus an Olympic gold medal.
